Experiencing the Feeling of Thrilled
Feeling intensely excited or overjoyed, often in response to something wonderful or unexpected.
Are you feeling a surge of excitement and anticipation in your body?
Do you have a strong sense of joy and exhilaration that makes you feel alive?
Are you finding it difficult to contain your enthusiasm and energy?
There’s something electric about being thrilled. It can arrive uninvited-a spontaneous reaction to an unexpected joy or a moment of connection that catches you off guard. The speakers reflected on how we often use this word casually, even carelessly. Saying “I’d be thrilled to go to the grocery store” strips the word of its power. Thrill is not just joy; it’s intensity. It’s the spark that lights up the mind and body with anticipation, sometimes even without warning.
Being thrilled often appears in creative spaces, where the process itself stirs excitement. As artists and creators, we find thrill in the moment when an idea clicks or when collaboration turns into synergy. These moments remind us how deeply thrilling it can be to be seen, aligned, and working toward something meaningful together.
But thrill isn’t always safe. For some, thrill-seeking behavior becomes a pursuit of adrenaline and can lead to risky choices. A rollercoaster ride might leave one person exhilarated and another anxious or overwhelmed. The feeling of being thrilled sits on the edge. It can lift us or destabilize us, and sometimes both at once. The same energy that brings joy can also crack open deeper emotions, especially when there’s fear involved.
Thrill is powerful, but it’s not permanent. Like many intense emotions, it’s a peak we touch and then descend from. Recognizing its temporary nature helps us savor it more fully and hold compassion for ourselves when it fades or tips into discomfort. And it’s okay to feel mixed emotions, even in thrilling moments. Sometimes, just naming that feeling—whether it’s exhilaration, fear, or the strange tangle of both is enough to help us hold steady.
Mindful Mindset
Thrill lives at the edge of anticipation and risk. Mindfulness helps us notice when we’re in a thrilling moment and to breathe into the excitement without losing our grounding.
Mindfulness Practices
Practices like mindful breathing or visualization can support us when the feeling becomes overwhelming.
